It would have been nice to catch the Memphis vibe, as that is a city I have never explored. But each day requires 10 hours on the road, so I had no such luxury. After crossing the Mississippi into Eastern Arkansas one comes upon the worst stretch of interstate highway that I ever encountered. Note to self: get a wheel alignment first thing after arriving in Los Angeles.
The rest of the trip was simple tedium broken up by a few interesting hours of NPR news. I often complain about the heat + humidity in the mid-Atlantic. The “heat index” through most of Oklahoma was 108! No speeding tickets so far anyway! Next stop – Gallup, New Mexico.
