Carbonboy’s Natural Weight Loss Diet – to Recover from Decades of Life on the Road – Part 1

Life on the road is grueling, and I am happy to say my road warrior days are over! At least I hope they are. For the first time in a decade, everything that I own is in one place!

Being away from home throws everything out of whack for most. Sure, there are some that actually eat that gross oatmeal that is served in the hotel chains, and get up at 5:30 a.m. for 30 minutes on the treadmill.

I envy them, but that is just not me. I typically opt for the scrambled eggs, sausage and a bagel, and about the most activity that I can muster up in the morning is a shave and shower.

Now that I am home, I split breakfast into two segments: the wake up rush, and mid-morning carb load.

Thankfully, I don’t ever have to wake up to an alarm clock again – I dreaded that for decades! Given my bedroom windows are facing east, I naturally awake with the sunrise most of the time. Right now that is about 6:25 a.m. Perfect!

As the coffee is brewing, I squeeze the juice of a half lemon and mix it with a half cup of warm water and a teaspoon of honey. This is a trick that celebrities swear by, but aside from the Vitamin C, the actual health benefits may just be hyped. I do find the tart lemon sweetened by honey gives me a psychological happy jolt. A quick mouth rinse with water will get the acidity off one’s teeth!

I choose a natural sugar rush by slicing one banana, one orange and one apple. For a little needed protein, Greek yogurt goes well with the fruit. Any kind will do – just stay away from the “fruit on the bottom” type (refined sugar) and make certain it contains no “high fructose corn syrup” – a substance the food processors dump into everything these days (the new tobacco).

For an added happy jolt, I include about a half ounce of really intense dark chocolate (85% cocoa). The health benefits of dark chocolate are overwhelmingly established – just don’t overdo it!

I place all that on a tray with my mega-mug of black coffee, and hop back in bed with my laptop. Email check, budget check and some 3D design work takes me to about a 9:00 a.m. shower (and I only shave if I’m in the mood to do so). How’s that for a morning commute! Trust me – I earned it!
