Christmas Past

A Pagan Christmas Tree at the iconic symbol of Imperial Rome!

I recall when I was a kid, my parents saying that time just flies by too fast. I didn’t really grasp that as, for me, time moved too damn slow, and I just wanted to grow up and stop being a dumb kid.

They were, of course, right.

This day in 2007 I was in Roma. It was cold. Seong Hye had flown in from Dubai and was mad at me for something I emailed her after having one too many glasses of vino rosa. To make up, I booked a fantastic suite at the St Regis Grand Hotel and found the perfect place for an authentic seafood pasta. It was a few steps from the Pantheon – and it proved to be perfect!

There was one hitch – I stuffed the Alfa Romeo 159 with too much luggage and the trunk would not open when we arrived at the hotel. It was a real task that took the best automotive experts in Rome to open – and they charged me nothing! I wasted a day getting the luggage out of the trunk!

Meanwhile Seong Hye explored that first day on her own on foot, and found Tervi Fountain and the Colosium on her own. She was delighted and I was exhausted!

Although it was bitter cold, it had proved to be the best day of my life. And that was six years ago today. Times flies by too fast!

Here in Piney Point a cold drenching rain overwhelmed us. The snow that hit New England would have been far more desirable. Yet this morning the sun is out and it approached 50 degrees – so I take my words back!
