Cinco de Mayo in Santiago de Querétaro

I gave this young musician 100 pesos, as he really could play. He immediately fetched his even younger brother to secure the money!

Cinco de Mayo is really a Mexican-American celebration, but is noted on the calendar here in México as well. It’s really a big thing in the Mexican State of Puebla, but for a different reason: winning a war over the French.

percusion africana

This was the early act of Percusion Africana. I bought their CD and got some great video later in the evening!

Here in Querétaro it is simply is a Sunday of fun, music and food, with the focus, of course, in Centro Historico. As there was so much music and dance (of all genres), I shot mostly video. And it will be the basis for my short video of my year here in México.

hamming it up

These two dudes were more than willing to ham it up for my camera – I got many great shots and the kids loved them!

As always I stopped for a great meal and wandered Centro Historico with my camera and tripod. I blended right in. I feel so at home here. I gave away 500 pesos to the poor in the streets in 50 pesos increments.  I could have given away 5000 and run out.

silver family

Is that a real live baby!

What I am not posting here is the live orchestra that played for hours. The older folks clearly came for that event and danced the night away. Likely they have been coming to dance on May 5th for decades. Fortunately I have video of that event.

QRO rappers

I wanted to get closer to these QRO rappers, but they were so hot that I could not get through the young crowd!

On the May 15 I return home! I am so glad I took the time to shoot some video tonight, as it will be the basis for my goodbye. I will miss all my friends here, but can’t wait to return to Piney Point for the summer!
