Day 3 – Transversing the Country’s Bread Basket

I had to get the western Illinois to see anything resembling a family farm – everything beforehand seemed to be big Agribusiness!

Wyoming is about cattle; Nebraska, corn, wheat and soybeans; western Iowa is like Wisconsin with rolling hills, and I think cute little pigs and sheep. America’s bread basket could feed most of the world, but instead converts food into fuel additives. Whatever.

This clearly was the most tedious part of the trip (tomorrow the rust belt will be crawling with state troopers). Everything is green and growing here. I lucked out, as I am traveling between thunderstorms and tornados – but they are closing in behind me.

It’s cool and dry in the Midwest tonight. Not for long. One more eleven hour drive and I am home!
