Going LED and Solar

Going LED and Solar

GE got one thing right when they created their Reveal light bulbs, at a color temperature similar to natural light. I have been buying those light bulbs for years. Everything else hurts my eyes!

They now have LED versions in about every configuration, and I completed my conversion of Thomas Edison bulbs to Reveal LEDs – 40 some in the house! OK, I did cheat a bit by buying a cheaper brand for those lights that are outside my sphere of everyday living.

I haven’t calculated the savings in wattage versus the high cost of the bulbs, but they are said to last for 20 years, so the ROI will come in time. Also they don’t generate any heat!

Given that I actually live in my home again, I am adding solar panels to the roof. My location is about ideal, for Maryland anyway. I still have the option to buy or lease, but leasing costs me nothing, and will save me about $1400 a year.

As the oil and coal industries have been screwing me and everyone for decades, and destroying the planet, I am happy with these moves.
