My Tiny Yacht

What Fassbinder film is it? The one-armed man walks into a flower shop and says “What flower expresses days go by, and they just keep going by, endlessly pulling you into the future. Days go by endlessly, endlessly pulling you into the future.

And the florist says “White Lily”. – Laurie Anderson

So today, my waterfront community was alive with the last weekend of summer. It was joyous.

At day’s end, sun-soaked and salt-watered, I came to think back to the wild & crazy times with my dear dead friend Donny Laing – on the wild & crazier coast of central California in the 1980’s (only Marty grasps those days).

That story is yet unfinished, but I feel it is coming soon.  I still see a screenplay in it – likely a small independent movie.

I left those days of sailing, and drinking, and doing the abominable, thinking someday I’d have a glorious yacht of my own. Well, that never happened, of course – at least to date (it still may). And it doesn’t matter in the least.

What I really longed for was to simply be out on the water. I have that. Life is grand. Now if only this damn humidity would dissipate!
