Rethinking Las Vegas

Rethinking Las Vegas

I won’t be putting my Piney Point house up for sale or lease until spring arrives, so I am in no rush to decide on my next move. It was, tentatively, to be downtown Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the Downtown Project has fizzled, and the area is not really suited for an R&D site. I am rethinking dealing with the horrific heat as well.

Those factors alone do not deter me – I’d be perfectly happy in an empty storefront with living quarters above. But the graphic above makes me wonder if it is worth it – one week of crime reports in the downtown area. The yellow explanation marks (!) are of the least concern – disturbing the peace – likely a combination of drunks and aggressive homeless folks. But really, why live in such an environment?

Carson City and Reno are booming startup scenes, and Tesla and others are pouring billions into the area. Having Lake Tahoe a hop away, and Yosemite two hops has its appeal as well. Too bad I am not Amazon, having cities woo me to move! Yet there is no harm in using that approach, and it should be fun!
