Trekking in Tall Timbers

One wonders if the owner of the antiquated boat is ever going to restore it?

When I arrived at Dulles Airport on Friday my seat mate advised me it would be raining and hoped I was not heading north as there was record breaking snow coming. She had moved from Fairfax, VA to San Francisco the same week I was trekking across the country to Sacramento. She left Virginia after that rare earthquake that shut down the Washington Monument only to experience her first in a high rise in the financial district of San Francisco!

The cold rainy drive from Dulles was not fun. The southren DC beltway is a mess and will be for the next decade. My feelings when I arrived at Piney Point were basically “I’m over this – get me out of here.”

birds

OMG – all these seagulls took to flight just for this photo!

But after a glorious night home in Piney Point and the best sleep ever, I decided I may have been premature in my judgement. This Sunday the sun was out and I had to take my Mazda pickup truck out for a drive to charge the battery (and emotionally reconnect with my amazing little truck).

Oh how I was wrong – I love this place – I just don’t want to live here all year round! My inclination was to move everything out, repaint and clean the carpet and put the place up for lease next year.

But strangers, likely with kids, living in my house – no way!

The simple life of the watermen here in Tall Timbers – like maybe this is what I will do when I retire?

Well tomorrow I head back to California, and the odds are good that I will get my 1st class upgrade on my Virgin America flight to SFO. When I get home to El Dorado Hills I will kiss the ground to be back, but Piney Point will always remain my home on the east coast. I love it here!
