Black Ice in Blacksburg

With a quarter inch of ice on the windshield, both me and my AWD XI know our limits and when to stay off the roads!

I have survived five hurricanes, three earthquakes, volcanic ash covering Europe and countless snow blizzards, and I know all can be deadly. It is best to avoid them, as I did with Hurricane Charlie (driving overnight from Tampa to Piney Point).

Today’s storm was a minor event in Blacksburg, but it caused major problems from Texas to DC. So I canceled my plans to travel home, stocked up on some good food and wine, and enjoyed my warm, cozy apartment while watching some pretty incredible snowy football games – likely the best of the year!

Just in case, I had food that did not require any cooking. But Blacksburg missed the brunt of the storm, as I watched the storm clouds in real-time pass to the east and the west. So instead, I cooked up an authentic Italian seafood pasta dish and invited my Korean sweetheart to meet me for dinner at 7:00 p.m. (she couldn’t quite make it as it was already Monday in Seoul).

Bottom line – know when to stay in and enjoy the simple pleasures of life!
