Descending into Reno

Descending into Reno

Today was a thirteen-hour drive with too many 10-minute scenic pitstops. I-80 through Utah is awesome. I regret (really) having to rush through without the time to visit an old friend. Next time for sure.

After a stop at Salt Flats, we had a a superb grand buffet at the Montego Bay Resort when crossing over the Nevada state line to Wendover. I was gently escorted out of the casino for taking a few quick photos (a no-no at all casinos).

People of all ages were gambling, and they all looked so miserable. It really is an addiction.

Throughout the journey, traffic was light, the roads were smooth, and my cruising speed averaged 84 mph. In spite, many vehicles passed me by.

Anytime fatigue levels elevated, a brief walk and stretch in the warm western air renewed me and truck-stop coffee propelled me.

Trust me folks, this trip is not an epic holiday journey. It is more a financially strapped catapulted journey to the Pacific Coast to work on a new project.

Tomorrow, finally, is a gem – Incline Village, a stop at Donner’s Lake, and dropping off my fellow traveler in Sacramento. Then onto my final destination: Santa Cruz.

Yet no rest for the wicked: with a day lost due to car problems, my consulting contract begins on Monday. I don’t have a clue what I signed up for, but I am excited as hell, and can’t wait to stroll barefoot on the beach in the chilly waters of Monterrey Bay.
