Me Playing Mad Scientist back in the 1990’s

Perry Wood designed the lab and Fred Chambers was the chemist developing a low-smoke, low heat-release foam ducting for the Boeing Fleet. I just had to get the product to the customer.

It was a phenolic foam, and met all of Boeing’s requirements – but alas, by the time we perfected it, Boeing switched to FRP insulated ducts.

The foaming process generated enough formaldehyde gas, I’d likely be dead without the mask. Kind of like the dirty process one must go through to create “clean” burning hydrogen gas for fuel!
