St. George Island Sandbar

St. George Island Sandbar

After a storm rolled through yesterday we had a perfect summer day that met my expectations to a tee: sunny, breezy, 74 F and LOW humidity. It won’t last but, it was a reminder what summer days should be like.

A few months back I rented a PO Box, figuring I don’t know my next destination until I leave for it. After lunch I have taken to the routine of walking to the post office to pick up my mail. I would be content never to receive a piece of mail again, but it is a good excuse to get the heart beating and a daily dose of Vitamin D.

After discarding my junk mail in the recycling bin at the Piney Point Post Office, I continue my walk across the bridge to St. George Island. As there is water on both sides, the winds kick up nicely to cool me down at the halfway point of my walk.

I could go further, but the turning point is my favorite little triangular sandbar right over the bridge. It is generally populated with gulls, annoyed when I arrive. The males fly of when I approach the tip of the bar, but often the females just walk to keep a little distance from me.

The journey back home is when the sweat starts pouring, and I end the walk on the pier to cool off. I feel great after that routine and can focus on design tasks at my workstation for a few more hours. It would be totally enjoyable if only that damn humidity stayed away.
